Creating a quick state climate profile can take as little as 30 minutes to an hour but can ground you in the climate landscape of a state. This includes identifying the climate risks and challenges in the state and policy actions and plans in response to the climate risks and challenges. We recommend using a state climate impact profile as a tool to review before meeting stakeholders from another state or as a jumping off point for your own state Climate Corps work.
Georgetown Climate Center
The Georgetown Climate Center website is an excellent initial resource. This site provides a written summary of the history of each state’s climate policies, plans, and goals. From the homepage, hover over the ADAPTATION tab and select State Adaptation Progress Tracker. From there, you can select any state from the drop-down menu next to SELECT A STATE and click GO. Alternatively, you can click on a state on the map for a quick preview and select CLICK HERE FOR MORE to reach the full state profile. The profile breaks up resources into the following categories.
Each of these resources is hyperlinked for you to view the original source. We recommend starting by clicking the READ MORE button at the top and using the written overview to ground yourself in the climate landscape. You can then select the additional resource links that interest you to delve into further. If you would like to sort the information by state or local, you can also click either the STATE AGENCY ACTION OVERVIEW or LOCAL SUPPORT OVERVIEW buttons for a brief summary paragraph on each topic.
ClimateXChange
ClimateXChange is another great resource for learning about climate policies, plans, and goals. This site provides you with great key resources, and allows you to look at climate action per sector. It breaks down the state profile information into the following categories.
From the homepage, hover over the DASHBOARD tab and click on the State Climate Policy Dashboard. From there, you can view by state or policy area by clicking State. Then simply click on the state on the map that you would like to view. Once on the state profile, you can view the latest GHG emissions breakdown by sector, see a legislative profile, have access to key resources, and see high-level emissions reduction targets all at the top of the page. From there, you can expand the categories bulleted above to see information for each sector. If you’d like to learn more about the definitions or meanings of information related to that sector, each box has a button to Learn More About This Policy Area in the upper lefthand corner.
